WVUe 189: Academic Mindset

WVUe 189 introduces students to a mindset that will assist them in acquiring knowledge and developing skills associated with achieving academic and personal success at West Virginia University. Students will be exposed to a combination of traditional classroom instruction with a faculty member and one-on-one instruction with a student success coach.

Course Objective

WVUe 189 helps get you in the right mindset to get the grades you want while achieving academic and personal success. WVUe 189 instructors work with you to practice homework and study skills, offer guidance on what services may best support your needs and help you set realistic and attainable goals for the semester. The course offers both traditional classroom instruction with a faculty member and one-on-one instruction with a student success coach.

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course students will:

  • Apply critical thinking skills by utilizing campus resources that pertain to student success.
  • Recognize and locate institutional policies, procedures, and expectations necessary for timely progression toward graduation.
  • Explore majors through the creation of an academic plan that will result in a major career path.
  • Identify building blocks of strong, positive, social, and academic relationships through participation in experiences that expose students to WVU’s diverse and global community.
