About Us

The transition to college can be a difficult adjustment for students and families. The First-Year Experience helps WVU’s newest Mountaineers successfully transition to academic and student life at WVU.

While every student experience will be different, WVU aims to coordinate a common path for all new students so that they have a purposeful and engaging first year as a Mountaineer. The Office of First-Year Experience, housed in the Center for Learning, Advising and Student Success (CLASS), works closely with WVU colleges, schools and academic departments to assist in making sure all first-year experiences set students up for success inside and outside of the classroom.

THE FIRST-YEAR EXPERIENCE IN CLASS

The Office of First-Year Experience also runs the First-Year Seminar (WVUe 191) for all students who are assigned to CLASS, which will serve as their academic home until they are admitted into a WVU school or college.

Through our signature courses, we equip students with the information they need to make sure WVU feels like home.
